I discovered the Gormenghast Trilogy upon watching the BBC miniseries on PBS in 2001. After watching the 4 hour drama play out, I was hooked and hell-bent on finding the book. For some reason, Gormenghast was not stocked at any of the major bookstores and I had to endure months of Gormenghastless agony waiting for the book. Some of the images found in the novel are unforgettable. It really is an experience to read them. This is a very insightful post!

There is NO WAY that your average fantasy pinhead would "get" Peake's literate trilogy. Too complex, too well-written. They'd rather read the latest ten book cycle written by a hack with a grade 8 level of writing. Robert Jordan fans have brains far too small and literal to grasp the intricately wrought prose that Peake composed. He makes Tolkien's offerings look like Dick & Jane books...
